Tips on finding cheap airfare.

Summer is over but we are approaching the holiday season and with that in mind we must think about are we going to be flying. Now is the time to start checking out airfares. Do not wait till the last minute to buy tickets for your holiday trip. Every once in a while it does work buying at the last minute but not usually during peak travel time.

Many websites like Expedia, Orbitz and other charge a booking fee. Sometimes they drop that fee during a promotion; so keep a look out. Also on any site you visit and checking fares make sure you understand what the bottom line is. Some go into a site and thing they have an awesome fair but don't realize it is showing the one way fare. Many times you must click through to the next screen to get the bottom line.

Airlines are your best bet. I rarely find a fare lower than what the airline offers. Still do your research. I will go in and look at fares on Kayak, pick the lowest fare and then go to that airlines website. Also some low fares on Expedia, etc will list a good fare but it is with multiple airlines. If this doesn't bother you then go for it.

One last note; play with travel dates. Saturdays sometime work to be a good day to travel. Pick a day during the week and stay past the weekend. Leave on a Tuesday and come back the following Tuesday.

Don't procrastinate.

Travel Advice

We all get the travel bug.  For those that save up for years for that dream vacation, to the consumate travler.  There is always something to learn before venturing out on that vacation.  Not only are travel regulations changing on a constant basis, but so are your destiantions.  Do your reserach before buying your tickets.  Shop around for the best deals whether it's your airlines ticket or your hotel.  If you are tight for money think about traveling during the off season.

I was fortunate in my younger years that I got to travel often with my parents.  Now as a single parent it has been years since I was out of the country.  Though my daughter and I have been saving for a trip after she graduates from high school.  Right now our plans are for England.  Thank goodness I have till the summer of 2011.  With the economy in a slump and currently being unemployed has put a dampner on saving for our trip.

If you are like me and need to save try putting some money away each month in an interest bearing savings account.  I opened one up a year ago and it has helped rack up a few extra dollars towards our trip.  I went with First National Bank of Omaha, with their online savings account.  I can tranfer from my bank account right into my savings account.  All this done online.  Do your research.
